Letter From the CEO: Staying Positive During a Crisis

There’s no denying it: The last few months have been tough. Dealing with the fallout from the coronavirus pandemic has been difficult for everyone, but, as is always the case, the autism community is no exception with our own set of challenges.

Staying positive is always a challenge, but right now, it feels impossible for a lot of people—including some in our own Intercare community. That’s why, as we move into the summer months, we here at Intercare wanted to take a moment to come together and look for the bright side during this difficult moment.

The APA (American Psychological Association) stresses the role of communication (especially between parents and children) and connection in maintaining a positive outlook during these trying times. Staying connected with our communities—including friends, extended family, and other groups that share our experiences—gives us outlets to discuss our feelings, relieve our stress, and, most importantly, maintain a sense of normality during a decidedly not-normal time. When it comes to creating a positive environment for children during the pandemic, the APA says that focusing on routines and schedules is key. As parents of children with autism know all too well, this is even more important for kids living with ASD.
